Jaspar Lepak “P Is For Placenta” – celebrating the powerhouse of life

There are, indeed, few things that can’t have a song written about them, but we’ll admit that, probably like you dear reader, this one was a bit of a surprise.  But Jaspar Lepak has addressed the issue on this jolly little ditty which explains that “P is for Placenta not Pizza Pint or Please / It’s the motherboard of human life / It’s everything you need.”

P is for Placenta‘ is the second single from Jaspar Lepak’s forthcoming feminist-themed album ‘So Strong’, and was inspired by Angela Garbes’ book ‘Like a Mother: A Feminist Journey through the Science and Culture of Pregnancy‘.  Says Lepak “I read it as part of a musical performance with the Bushwick Book Club of Seattle’. In a chapter titled ‘An Organ as Two-Faced as Time,’ Garbes writes about the science of the placenta as a riveting page turner, and I just couldn’t help myself—I learned so many amazing things about the placenta that I had to write this song!

We’ve got to admit, though, that we’re not fully convinced by the recipe suggestions.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
