Julian Taylor “Ain’t Life Strange” – regrets, regrets, regrets

The latest single from Julian Taylor is a sombre reflection on mistakes that have been made, and wishes that it might be possible to fix things that should never have been broken.   It’s the sound of a soul struggling with inner thoughts and nagging and undermining doubts: “Close your eyes / Tell me, what do you see? / If you’re like me  / You struggle with all you’re meant to be.”  With a musical accompaniment in-tune with the self-analysis the song embodies it’s seductively listenable whilst the lyrics encourage a sense of empathy – have we not all been there, and is it not an emotionally hard place to climb out of?

Ain’t Life Strange‘ is taken from Julian Taylor’s forthcoming album, ‘Pathways, which will be released September 27th, 2024 on the Howling Turtle, Inc. label.  Julian Taylor is certainly in a productive mindset as the new album follows on from 2020’s ‘The Ridge‘, 2022’s ‘Beyond The Reservoir‘ and last year’s career retrospective release, ‘Anthology Vol. 1.’  And if you can’t get enough of the man then we have some additional good news in that Julian will be touring the EU and the UK later this summer – with UK dates as follows.

August 22 – Shoreham-By-Sea, UK | Ropetackle Arts Centre
August 24 – Lutterworth, UK | The Long Road Festival
August 25 – London, UK | Water Rats
August 28 – Liverpool, UK | The Music Room
August 29 – Shrewsbury, UK | Shrewsbury Abbey
August 30 – Blackpool, UK | The British Country Music Festival
August 31 – Gainsborough, UK | Kirton In Lindsey Diamond Jubilee Town Hall

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
