Linda Draper “’81 Camaro” – Heading out there…that way

Linda Draper, you may recall from the last song we featured, is not a puller of punches and the same holds true on ‘’81 Camaro‘ where she calls out some suspect thinking, with just a little touch of the old country sarcasm: “you say money can’t buy happiness / Well then give away your money and tell me how it feels to be free. / Are you happy now?”  There’s a sense of longing for that freedom though that runs through the latest single from Draper’s new album ‘Patience and Lipstick‘, which is released January 21st.  As she explains “It’s a song about longing for the days of innocence, all the while knowing that those days are behind me, but still living for the joy that each moment has to offer, even if I have nothing but gratitude and the holes in my pockets to give in return.  It is really the current state of life I find myself in now as I gear up for a move from New York, where I have lived my whole life, to the North Carolina coastline.”

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
