New Bootleg Series release from Dylan

This news hit at the end of the week – so why so long for us to pass it on to you, dear reader? Could it be that it slipped the Deputy Editors’ mind because he was spending too long over the weekend discussing Jean Michelle Jarre with the Editor?  Well, that’s not credible, who’d believe that?

So, Dylan – new Bootleg Series release, and covering which era this time? The album’s called ‘Springtime In New York (1980-1985)’ which is a bit of a clue.  Those fabled years of ‘Shot of Love‘ (a much better album than you recall), the superb ‘Infidels‘ and the really not bad ‘Empire Burlesque.‘ So we’ll have to wait for any ‘Hearts on Fire‘ outtakes.  Not to worry – there are 5 CDs worth of material on the deluxe version of ‘Springtime In New York (1980-1985)’, and if that seems like too much Dylan (is that a thing?) then there’s the 2CD release and a 2 Vinyl LPs release as well.  Bootleg Series Volume 16 is out on September 17th.

Here’s a taster of an outtake that surely should have made an album.

And here’s Dylan in MTV mode – dig those crazy shoulder pads.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?

Ha! That Dylan MTV clip is so quintessentially 1980s! That has made my day 🙂 Thank you!
