Old Sea Brigade “Stayed Up Late” – Not tired though…

Taken from the new album ‘5AM Paradise‘ which is out on Nettwerk on October 28th, ‘Stayed Up Late‘ finds Old Sea Brigade (a.k.a Ben Cramer) in that hazy place that lack of sleep produces.  He is, quite simply, woozy.  But at the same time the song finds him reflecting on his shift into his thirties and on the challenges that are ahead and the unchangeable events that have gone before.  It’s a slow ballad, opening with stumbling percussion and then marked out by piano and that aforementioned wooziness conveyed through synthesized melodic lines.

The upcoming album ‘5AM Paradise‘ celebrates a musical community Cramer has developed – as well as writing and touring with Luke Sital- Singh, this has also included tour mates like Passenger and Wild Rivers, as well as artists who’ve come to Nashville from across the world to work with Old Sea Brigade as a producer – like Australia’s Angie McMahon and England’s John Joseph Brill – plus hometown talent like Braison Cyrus and Paul McDonald.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
