Peter Stone “Cogs” – a spectrum of love

Of course when you’re asked “are we in Love?” the reply “yes my Darling, I’m in love with everyone” may not get the pleased response that you’re hoping for.  But, if anyone can ever pull it off successfully then Peter Stone has as much chance as anyone.  Peter was the co-founder and former guitarist of The Rare Occasions, an LA-based band who specialised in explosive garage rock anthems, but on their solo release the mood is somewhat more restrained.  ‘Cogs‘ drifts on the gentlest layers of sound, guitar and vocals blending with the sounds of nature and the truly softest hints of banjo in the background.

It’s indie-folk drifting along the dusty back roads of rural America, but not really alone whatever Peter may say – as they are wrapped, it seems, in the warmth of a relaxed love.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
