Carter Sampson Trio + Sean Duggan, St Pancras Old Church, 30th October 2019

A Thursday night in the capital and there’s an embarrassment of riches on offer for the fan of Americana music. Slightly to the north of us, Ana Egge is playing at the Green Note in Camden, Caroline Spence is just up the road in Islington and Tyler Ramsey, former lead guitar player for Band of Horses, is out west at the Bush Hall. Perhaps this accounts for the somewhat scant number of people in attendance at St Pancras Old Church for Carter Sampson. It’s a venue she’s familiar with having played here last spring, and as with her last outing, Carter Sampson perform tonight as a trio, albeit this time out she’s accompanied by Jason Scott (producer of last year’s ‘Lucky’ album) and Kyle Reid. And what a terrific venue the church is, its intimate surrounds, atmosphere and perfect acoustics making it a highlight for any music lover. Carter Sampson announces October/November tour dates

Carter Sampson burst onto the European Americana scene with the release of her album ‘Wilder Side’ in 2016 and the six follow up tours within the year of release. Carter Sampson to tour the UK with two album releases

Carter Sampson burst onto the European Americana scene in 2016 with the release of her album ‘Wilder Side.’ It created such a stir here and in Europe that as a result, in the first year after the release, the Queen of Oklahoma spent almost as much time in Europe as in her home state. The follow up album to ‘Wilder Side,’ ‘Lucky,’ is due for general release on 25th May and Carter will be returning to the UK to promote the album. Kilkenny Roots Festival, 28th April – 1st May 2017, Kilkenny, Ireland

This was the second time your intrepid reporter has attended the annual celebration of all things good in Roots and Americana music that’s held in the beautiful city of Kilkenny in Ireland and now that it’s done and dusted, I can only scratch my head and wonder why only twice? Arriving on the Friday afternoon the first stop was Cleeres bar and on entering a pint of the local ale was thrust into my hand amidst many welcoming cries. It’s that kind of weekend. Folk I’d met once before at last year’s fest instantly said hello, some were veterans who have been attending since the nineties, some fellow newbies and soon we were all perusing the festival programme and working out our itineraries.
