Video: Harrow Fair “Seat at the Table”

We begin the week with ‘Seat at the Table’ from Harrow Fair, taken from the duo’s brand new album, ‘Sins We Made’.   The voices of Miranda Mulholland and Andrew Penner blend and complement one another beautifully.  They say: “We felt that, as artists, we had a responsibility to comment on the world we live in and the world we want to create. ‘Seat at the Table’ became a thesis statement for us. Harrow Fair “Sins We Made” (Roaring Girl Records, 2020)

Three years on from their fine debut, Harrow Fair – Miranda Mulholland and Andrew Penner – return with a second serving of their darkly thumping amalgam of folk and rock – and thudding almost Glam Rock at that – and subtle and haunting straighter folk-influenced songs. It’s an eclectic mix. There’s a powerful opening with crunching guitar and powerful violin on ‘Dark Gets Close‘ for a discordant vision of optimism which finds a resolution in dark depths: “Even when the future isn’t clear / Even when the words all disappear / Just because you can’t remember hope starts here / No courage without fear“. Video Premiere: Harrow Fair “Sins We Made”

We’re delighted to share the world video premiere of the new single from Harrow Fair. The good-humoured video for ‘Sins We Made’ is inspired by comic strips and ‘unboxing’ videos.  Harrow Fair are comprised of Andrew Penner (also of Sunparlour Players) on vocals, guitar and drums and Miranda Mulholland (Great Lake Swimmers) on vocals and fiddle.  They know how to play.  Continue reading “Video Premiere: Harrow Fair “Sins We Made””

Americana Music Fest 29th January, Hackney, London

Organised by the Americana Music Association UK (AMAUK), the showcase runs at five Hackney Central venues over two nights, culminating in the awards ceremony at hackney Empire on the third evening. It’s a fairly massive undertaking, with almost 60 bands or artists performing half hour sets over the two showcase nights. It links in with the AMAUK music conference, an opportunity for all those involved in this area of the music business to come together and discuss how to promote a genre which it’s fair to say no-one can definitely describe. Harrow Fair return to UK for autumnal dates

Toronto-based duo Harrow Fair are aka Miranda Mulholland and Andrew Penner and they’ve just announced their return to the UK this autumn including shows in Milton Keynes, Sheffield, Bristol and London’s Green Note on Wednesday 8th November (full dates below).  We described their most recent record in rather glowing terms: “It’s the balance of crunching guitar and unsettling percussion coupled with edgy fiddletunes that forms the musical palette for Call to Arms…. As debut’s go this is darn near to perfect.”  And you can’t get better than that (apart from actually being perfect).  And while you peruse the list of dates, why not listen to their cover below of Memphis Minnie Led Zepplin covered track When The Levee Breaks.
