Video: Alexandra Alden “Stonefruit”

Enjoy the latest video from Maltese singer-songwriter Alexandra Alden. ‘Stonefruit’ is an absorbing lyrical journey, exploring transience and the conflicting feelings of connection and disassociation that reflect a life lived in motion. Alden’s words are poetry, full of narrative details, fleeting images and metaphors that create an emotional resonance: “I need to buy new shoes again // these ones lasted a year // I walked along the Chelsea Line // in Brooklyn found a tear // I’m busy meeting with strangers now // don’t know if we’ll meet again // Tears are rolling down my chin // into a stolen hotel pillow // threw the bag of cherries in the bin // they were starting to mould.” By the time we reach the chorus, Alden is making a plea for connection: “and I wish someone would hold me // feel the soft animal of my bones // like stonefruit in the heat of summer // don’t let my blood run cold.” Those beautifully evocative words are delivered with lilting melody over gently swelling instrumentation as the song grows.

Alden says of the song’s theme and accompanying video: “I try to balance the concrete imagery of a transient life with the universal ache for connection – alluding to symbols like mouldy cherries, torn up shoes and glitter on the cheeks of concert-goers whom I chat with after my shows. What might especially resonate is the accompanying video, which was filmed on a single walk through NYC, following me from my hotel to the stage at The Bowery Electric as sunset turns to night. It captures that specific, restless energy of the big city contrasted by my introspective nature as a writer.”

Alden is set to release her third album, “When Is It Too Late?”, on 14th November 2025. This follows the well-received “Leads to Love” in 2021 and her award-winning debut, “Wild Honey”. With Sylvia Plath’s fig tree metaphor central to its themes, “When Is It Too Late?” explores change and survival – thoughtful, sensitive songs from a fine songwriter.
