Video: Austin Lucas “Cry Over”

On his new single, Americana UK favourite Austin Lucas asks the question: “What do you cry over // If not these things.”  In a world so full of tragedy, systemic abuse of power and the dishonesty of those in authority, it’s an important question.  His songs blend a range of influences and, here, punk comes to the fore as Lucas rails against injustice.  ‘Cry Over’ is taken from the recent album ‘Alive in the Hot Zone’.  The album is an incredible statement from Lucas and opening track ‘Already Dead‘ was nominated for International Song of the Year at the recent AMAUK Awards.  Lucas spent 2020 in Germany in exile from his homeland.  It allowed him an interesting perspective on America from afar as, despite the challenges of the pandemic, people raised their voices in protest, demanding to be heard.  Here’s another great song from one of the country and Americana-scene’s most inspiring voices.
