Here’s the latest single from Canadian singer-songwriter Bobby Dove. Fortune Teller is an engaging song that tackles intangible questions through mystical symbols and mysterious magic. Over jangling electric and acoustic guitar, Dove delivers a tuneful, conversational vocal performance, asking: “Am I just a fortune teller // Making shit up as I go along?” That opening line immediately captures our attention and hooks us into the storytelling that follows. With flourishes of violin from Alison Corbett and Burke Carroll’s gorgeous pedal steel woven through it, Fortune Teller is beautifully textured and absorbing. Filmed on location at The Chatfield Exchange and directed by Aubrey Stewart, the video is an artful accompaniment to the song. Dove appears as a fortune teller in this fabulous location that adds vivid colour to the storytelling.
Fortune Teller is the title track from Dove’s brand new album, out now on New Motor Records/Warner ADA. Produced in Toronto by Aaron Goldstein (Cowboy Junkies, Kathleen Edwards), this is the third album from the acclaimed JUNO Award-winning artist. There are tales of lost love and life on the road, crossing the boundaries of classic country, honky tonk, contemporary folk and blues, all delivered through Dove’s authentic, storytelling voice. The follow-up to 2021’s Hopeless Romantic is a confident collection of well-crafted songs from the trans/non-binary Bobby Dove. Enjoy.
