Fantastic Negrito’s brings biting social commentary to life in the new video for ‘Highest Bidder’. The video features live clips of the artist performing interspersed with archival footage. This single is from a new collection called ‘Grandfather Courage’ which is an acoustic reimagining of his 2022 album ‘White Jesus Black Problems’. Both albums tell the story of Negrito’s distant relatives living in Virginia in 1750 during the American slavery era. Recorded with his touring band, the track seethes and smokes much like the imagery in the video.
On the album he says, “If you want to take your mind, body and soul on a trip check out the reimagined recording of ‘Highest Bidder’ through the lenses of my touring band. At the time, I was listening to a lot of African drum patterns, and that definitely influenced this song. I’m trying to convey what I see when I walk down the street here in Oakland.”
All three of Fantastic Negrito’s albums have won GRAMMY Awards in the Blues category. Audiences can see him performing with his band in the UK and Europe in February 2023.
