Video: John Smith “Friends”

Here is a lovely acoustic performance from John Smith, recorded live at Real World Studios.  A hopeful song of friendship is something we all need right now and, when Smith delivers such heartfelt lines as, “I’ll be there to help with the load,” he could be singing to each one of us.  Alongside the unprecedented global turmoil of 2020, Smith also faced a series of personal challenges.  Once his relentless touring schedule was cancelled, Smith was stuck at home, finding some hope through music.

He explains: “With newfound pain coming from so many directions, dealing with the uncertainty it brings, I closed the curtains and picked up the pen, turning to song-writing as a lifeline.  I wrote this song for my friends. Some of them feel more distant than others, after a year without contact.  The ties that bind these friendships are not lost or forgotten. They’re still there, as tight as ever. I imagine a lot of people are feeling this way, to some extent.”  Co-produced by friend and producer Sam Lakeman, the uplifting ‘Friends’ is about reconnecting with those who are special to us after months or years apart.  It’s also the first glimpse of new material to be released this year.  Check it out the new album due in March.
