Nashville-based duo Larkin Poe have released ‘If God is a woman’, a song that highlights the typecasting and limiting of women in society. Multi-instrumentalists Rebecca and Megan Lovell are known for their authentic, blues sound and this is another great example – distorted lap steel drives the song, along with thumping drums and bass, over which memorably melodic vocals have a gritty edge.
Rebecca says of the song: “Defying expectation requires great effort but the cathartic joy of deeper self-discovery is worth the struggle. ‘If God Is A Woman’ was written as a reminder to resist the typecasting of women, both conscious and unconscious. There are many shades of existence, and we had fun painting abstract with this sardonic blues.”
The sisters won a GRAMMY for their last album, ‘Blood Harmony’, and their next offering promises to be just as compelling. ‘Bloom’ is due to be released on 24th January 2025. Rebecca explains: “‘Bloom’ is about finding oneself amidst the noise of the world, about wholeheartedly embracing the flaws and idiosyncrasies that make us real.” Megan adds: “In one way or another, pretty much all of the songs on this album are about finding yourself, knowing yourself, and separating the truth of who you are from societal expectations.” We can expect ‘Bloom’, Larkin Poe’s seventh studio album, to be an outstanding addition to their already-extensive catalogue.
