Here’s the video for I’m So Tired from U.S. Army veteran Marc Ridge. Born and raised in Lafayette, Indiana, Ridge began performing in bars from 16 years old, engaging audiences with well-known covers and accomplished originals. After serving in the mountains of Afghanistan with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, Ridge began writing and self-releasing his own songs, steadily building a huge following in America thanks to his gritty sound and stories.
With just his guitar and earthy, characterful voice, Marc Ridge’s performance of I’m So Tired is utterly captivating. His words are direct and purposeful, a flow of ideas many will associate with: “I’m so tired of always wanting more // Like I can’t never be satisfied // But most of all I’m tired of runnin’ // I’m tired of fighting // I’m tired of cryin’ ’bout somethin’ I can’t see // Baby I’m just plain old tired…Some old timer once told me //Comparison is the thief of joy.” This is a wonderfully weary song to mirror Ridge’s gravelly, worn-out voice. The song was inspired by an outing with his wife to a cheap diner for Valentine’s Day. She asked him how he was doing, and he replied, “I’m so tired.” It was the seed of a song that grew rapidly; it was written and recorded and the video shot that night. That immediacy and the personal nature of the song’s theme result in a song that feels completely authentic and compelling.
Most of all, we must celebrate Ridge’s remarkable voice; a voice for telling stories, for intimate, open-hearted confessions through song. Check it out.
