Video: Paper Wings “Mad Thing”

Here’s recent single ‘Mad Thing’ from Nashville-based folk duo Paper Wings. Every now and then, we find a song that is utterly striking in its simple beauty.  Emily Mann and Wila Frank, long-time friends and musical collaborators, deliver such a sing here.  The blend of their voices is sublime, a perfect combination, and their vocals are smooth, warm and fluid.  There’s a real intimacy in the performance and their words.  At AUK, we also appreciate the dance moves that we can just about keep up with.

The single is taken from Paper Wings’ third album, ‘Listen to the World Spin’, which is out now.  Mann and Frank had spent three years apart, working on other projects but reunited to craft these new songs as a duo again.  Frank explains: “These songs brought us back together, tugging at our hearts until we made them into something.  We needed these songs to guide and comfort us through the last few years, and we hope they’ll do the same for others.”  Indeed they do.  The three singles released prior to the album have been critically well-received, featuring on Apple Music’s New in Americana Playlist.  It’s all beautiful stuff but start here with ‘Mad Thing’.

Absolutely my song of the year (so far!).
