Video Premiere: Alex McEwan “In a World We Don’t Know”

The scenes of rural beauty in the video for ‘In a World We Don’t Know’ are a perfect match for this timeless song.  Filmed by Joao Faria at Southwark Farm, Penshurst, and then edited by Damian Thomas of Playhouse Films, the well-shot visual presents an idyllic country life as a backdrop for ‘In a World We Don’t Know’, the new single release from Glasgow-born singer-songwriter Alex McEwan.  Built on absorbing layers, including lush strings and pulsing percussion, the song demonstrates McEwan’s fine songcraft and showcases his smooth, warm vocal.  His performance and his words are earnest and heartfelt.

McEwan attempts to blend all his influences in his sound: the country of Glen Campbell and Johnny Cash that he grew up with and the more contemporary rock of Scottish bands like Del Amitri and Travis.  Back in 2004, McEwan released his debut album, ‘Beautiful Lies’, to critical acclaim.  Championed by well-known radio presenters, such as Steve Wright and Jeremy Vine, the album and its singles brought success and a huge tour alongside Katie Melua.  Despite this, McEwan decided to take a step back from the music industry.  He found love, completed a master degree and ended up working as a banker, a complete lifestyle change.  But when he was asked to perform on a cruise ship, his old inspiration returned and McEwan began working on new material.  Written and recorded during the pandemic, the new songs feature a host of quality collaborators, including Chris Maas on drums (Mumford and Sons), Carlos Garcia on guitar (John Newman) and Ian Grimble (Bear’s Den, Travis, Daughter) on mixing duties, before the album was mastered by Ted Jensen in Nashville.

The new single is taken from the ‘What is Love EP’, due for release on 28th October 2022.  In turn, the songs from this collection will appear on a full album in 2023, named for this lead song ‘In A World We Don’t Know’.  Check it out.
