We’re delighted to premiere the latest single from the brilliant Beans on Toast. Typically for Beans, it’s an immediately likeable and uplifting folky anthem that soon has you moving and singing along. Beans is known for his lively wit and smart lyrics, evident once again in ‘Back Out on the Road’. His distinctive voice feels, as ever, as if he’s having a conversation with you, almost-spoken yet absorbingly and easily tuneful.
‘Back Out on the Road’ is a celebration of the touring lifestyle and all the people and places that have enriched Beans’ life over the years. It’s a timely release as he’s just about to embark on a massive 30-date tour across the UK and Germany. Of the inspiration for the single, Beans says: “‘Back out on the Road’ is a love letter to live music, independent venues and the wonderful people who frequent them. It’s a celebration of England and the joys of travelling this beautiful land. I’ve been touring non-stop for well over a decade and have thousands of gigs under my belt, but it never gets old. Hopefully, this song will act as a thank you to all the people who come out to see me play, meaning I can continue on my journey. I think it’s important for them to know how much I love doing this.”
The last ‘proper’ Beans on Toast album was the joyous ‘Survival of the Friendliest’. It was an album that shone with the beauty of our world and what it means to be human, sweeping us along in uplifting currents of positivity and acting as a counter to all the negativity of recent years. It was consciously designed to make us feel better and succeeded in its purpose brilliantly. Indeed, Beans’ songs of recent years certainly helped me get through. He followed this with a wonderfully-realised project to create stories and songs for children that we reviewed here and here. Now, it’s time for the troubadour to hit the road again and return to songs that look at life and the world from a more political angle.
‘Back Out on the Road’ is the first of three new singles that will be released in the near future, all of which will appear on Beans’ next album, due on 1st December 2023. of the new material, Beans says: “Granted, it’s a long way off, but I wanted to draw a line after my last album and my quick turn at being a kids’ entertainer. These songs are back to a more ‘classic Beans’ singing songs about the current state of the world around me and trying to make my opinions rhyme.” The new album will be something to look forward to from a consistently engaging artist.
