Video Premiere: Helen Townsend “Battlefield”

Here is the dramatic video premiere of ‘Battlefield’, the latest single from Australian singer-songwriter Helen Townsend.  Her performance is as emotional as her lyrics are powerful in this deeply evocative song.  She sings, “Love is a battlefield,” with pain etched upon her face and her heartache evident in her voice, which is strong and clear, elevated by beautiful backing vocals as the tension mounts and the song grows.

Townsend created the video with Shannon Smith and Reilly Stewart.  Together, they have produced an atmospheric, artful video that complements the song perfectly and matches the intensity and passion of Townsend’s delivery.  It’s brilliantly shot and full of clever touches, particularly as the destruction is reversed towards the end of the song.

‘Battlefield’ is the second single from Townsend’s forthcoming album.  Whereas previous single ‘Is This Love?’ celebrated the highs of love’s emotional journey, this song presents the more uncertain and tumultuous aspects of love and relationships.  Like the sepia-toned video, ‘Battlefield’ is moody and, while the melody is slow and restrained, the tension builds.  In life and love, there are highs and lows, peaks and troughs, and ‘Battlefield’ provides a balanced perspective that listeners will be able to connect with.  It’s impressive stuff – check it out.
