Video Premiere: Jared McCloud “Tramp Like Me”

Here’s the latest release from Portland-based singer-songwriter Jared McCloud.  ‘Tramp Like Me’ rocks with upbeat rhythms and bright, tuneful guitar that builds towards the song’s conclusion.  McCloud’s compelling vocal performance is at the heart of the song; his infectiously melodic voice is delivered smoothly but with a gritty edge.  His raw vocal style and guitar work reflect his previous experience in heavy metal and hard rock bands – those influences giving his performance an effective edge.

McCloud shares complex, challenging feelings through his introspective words: “What’s best is best, but this hole in my chest won’t let go of your memory…I’m falling apart at the seams…’Cause this sadness, it’s an anchor // And it’s shackled to my feet…I’ve been a selfish man…I’m no hero.”  It’s a heartfelt and vulnerable message, complemented by the artistically-produced video in which the protagonist is constantly searching for the right words.

The single is taken from McCloud’s brand new album ‘VACANCY’, produced by Kevin Bowe (The Replacements, Etta James), which was released on 6th September 2024.  This was his first album for some time, having taken an extended break from recording.  McCloud’s last release, the 2014 EP ‘To Live and Die in Your Arms’, reached 46 on the iTunes Top 200 Singer-Songwriter chart.  After this success, he became a father and took time with family in in his adopted home of Portland, where he also set up a successful music festival.  However, McCloud was drawn back into his music and the time has come to return with ‘VACANCY’, a collection that finds him older and more reflective and vulnerable.  Check it out now.
