Nashville singer/songwriter Katie Boeck sees love through the ‘Dust’ in her new video. Boeck, who gained fame as one of the leads of ‘Spring Awakening’ on Broadway, recorded the new song with producer Shane Leonard. The lyrics are a bit of a cautionary tale with Boeck warning a lover, “Don’t fall asleep, don’t close your eyes, I might just pass you by”.
Reflecting on the song, Katie says, “’Dust’ is a song about spiritual timing — when one soul is ready for something real, and the other is still chasing fleeting pleasures. It begins as a gentle warning and a sort of challenge to rise, but ultimately settles into acceptance and letting go. I’d recorded a simple demo at home, and when Shane Leonard — a producer whose work I’ve long admired — opened his studio for a few live-to-tape sessions, I sent it in. He invited me to come track it, and the band and I rehearsed and recorded this version in just a couple of hours on a very rainy August afternoon in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.”
Joining Boeck and Leonard in the studio were Joe Westerlund on drums, Pat Keen on bass and Paul Brandt on keys. Bella Mazzola directed the video, creating imagery to match the plaintive lyrics. Boeck explains their vision when creating the video, “The song explores themes that feel deeply tied to the feminine experience—the desire to be truly met in one’s depth. For the video, Bella (Twin Lantern Productions) and I wanted to reflect that longing with something simple yet ethereal, a visual echo of the song’s emotional space: vulnerable and yearning, but also beautiful and sacred.”
