We are delighted to share the video premiere of the new single from Faroese-Canadian artist Lena Anderssen. ‘Aimee’ is the second single from forthcoming album, ‘State of the Land’. Anderssen recorded the new album with the legendary recording engineer Geoff Emerick, who worked with The Beatles on such ground-breaking albums as Revolver, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road. It was his final full-album before he passed away.
Anderssen has a lovely lyrical style that draws the listener in. When she sings: “Aimee’s looking out through the window // She’s waiting for the world to be safe again,” it feels eerily relevant in today’s world despite being written before the lockdown. She is a storyteller. The song is about the difficulty in moving on, something many listeners will relate to. The message is reinforced by Anderssen’s performance from within a simple line-drawing of the outline of a house in a city-scape – she appears trapped at home, which is fitting as many nations head back into national lockdowns.
In contrast to the subject-matter, ‘Aimee’ is upbeat, light and bright. The overall effect is uplifting and hopeful. This is just the sort of song to take with us into a dark and difficult winter. Enjoy.
