Well, here’s the sound of the Summer (although you’d never tell from the photo) arriving on this dreamy new song from Morton Valence, with the added bonus of the guitar playing of Long Ryder Stephen McCarthy. Morton Valence and Stephen McCarthy – what a perfect combination for Americana-UK to premiere, and that’s no surprise as Morton Valence were also the opening band for the Long Ryders just last year.
‘Hey Misty‘ is a song of not long lasting love – a fling, a short lived thing, a…holiday romance – as Anne Gilpin and Robert Hacker sing of “Misty running barefoot through the sand / There’s a twilight on the horizon and a train ticket in your hand.” But it’s not touched by real sadness, not with that shimmering hazy guitar work. Speaking of the song Morton Valence have explained that: “The song’s protagonist, Misty, symbolises a sense of timeless freedom and longing that you encountered in some far-off idyll, equally hazy and elusive, as it is shining bright. Misty is there, heading into the unknown, carrying that shabby old guitar of hers and whistling that song you always heard playing in the distance.”
