Check out the latest single from Belgian artist Lukas Somers, also-known-as Solak. ‘Different Timing’ is an engaging introduction to his lo-fi indie-folk. Alongside a string arrangement from Joppe Bestevaar, the multi-instrumentalist Somers delivers guitar, piano, bass and percussion in this well-crafted melodic song. ‘Different Timing’ begins with slow, gently swaying rhythms, just like the tortoise journeying steadily through the video. Somer’s soft, smooth voice is supported by some lovely guitar-work and gorgeous harmony backing vocals. Halfway through, the song gets into a delightful, light groove. Inspired by the birth of his son, ‘Different timing’ is a reflective song about the need to be in sync in a relationship. It’s sensitive music, thoughtfully put together.
This is the second single to be released from ‘Atlas’, the forthcoming album due out on 15th November 2024. This is the follow-up to the fragile and melancholic ‘Green’, released four years ago. With the help of technician/mixer Steven van Gelder, the new songs have been recorded at Ocean Sound Recording Studios in Norway, which has hosted the likes of Travis and Arcade Fire. Surrounded by the sea, the studio is in a beautiful location, helping to inspire Solak’s atmospheric songs. Somers says: “I don’t want to give too much explanation about the songs. The listeners will translate the atmosphere contained in the music to their own experiences.”
Somers is seeking something pure in his music; he explains: “I can’t fake it, so there’s no point in even trying. I hope that those who listen to my music come closer to themselves. That after an eventful day the stress flows away, and the feeling prevails that everything will be alright.” Be absorbed.
