Video: Ringo Starr “Look Up”

Album art for Ringo Starr "Look Up"

It seems that it takes a lad from Liverpool to remind us what real country music should be like.  Ringo Starr’s new album, “Look Up”, is a triumph.  Produced and co-written by the legendary T Bone Burnett, it is Starr’s first country album in over 50 years, since his second solo LP, “Beaucoups of Blues”, also reflected his love of country and blues.  The new collection benefits from a host of brilliant collaborators, including Molly Tuttle, Larkin Poe, Lucius, Billy Strings and Alison Krauss.  With Burnett’s classic writing and these stars of the genre, Ringo has pulled off that rare feat of creating fresh, new songs that feel like you’ve been humming along to them for years.

Here’s the video for the title track, “Look Up”, one of the album’s highlights.  Director Wyndham Garnett has put together a beautifully-shot video, in which diverse, everyday people gather in a field and create a huge, human peace sign together.  Aided by Molly Tuttle, Ringo delivers a faultless vocal performance in the warm sunlight.  Ringo’s voice is perfect for this classic country sound and his words send a powerful message through a playful melody: “There’s a light that shines in the darkest days.”  Both lyrically and musically, “Look Up” is an uplifting song that takes you by the hand and dances with you.  Ringo often says, “Peace and love.”  Come on world – it’s time to take notice.

Ringo also advises us to “live to fight another day” in this moving video. Very wise counsel for these fraught times.
