Ethan Samuel Brown “Being Blue” – no more, no more

Ethan Samuel Brown’s ‘Being Blue‘ is a melancholic declaration that the blues is no longer for him – not the music, the feeling.  Specifically it’s his take on ten years in Nashville – known to some as “10-year town” for its tendency to either make or break artistic aspirations.  Ethan Samuel Brown has shared some of his thoughts behind the song, explaining candidly that “I had been reflecting on a decade in Nashville. Unresolved, slightly jaded, and exhausted; I took note of my contemporaries who had suddenly traded their guitar for a real-estate license.  In an effort to draw a through line between the ages of 18 and 28, I wrote the second verse about an earlier time when I felt the winds of change behind my sails.

It’s a song that could easily be a downer, but like Brown himself you should stick with it, man, because there’s a glorious light that appears at 3 minutes and 33 seconds – a light that’ll sear you, but it’s a blissful, hopeful, still striving and damn well getting their coda to the song.

The song is the third single from Brown’s latest album ‘Small Actors’, which was released on January 10th.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
