Video: Starter Car “Throwing Down” – guitar music for race-car drivers

Here is the latest single from London-based four-piece band Starter Car. In Throwing Down, the band deliver bright, country-infused twanging guitars over upbeat, bouncing percussion. Lush backing vocals lend the song a dreamy feel and, towards the end, a guitar solo rises up in a sweeping, laid-back conclusion. Oisean Burnett’s smooth, melodic vocals hook you in and are immediately engaging as he sings of spiralling when left to his own devices. The video, filmed by Robyn Black and Flow Bracey, finds Burnett exploring a Classic Car Boot sale and demonstrates the band’s good humour.

Burnett moved down to London from Scotland, seeking new musical opportunities and inspiration. He soon formed friendships that would become an adventurous new band, influenced by the alt-country and indie rock of the likes of Wilco and MJ Lenderman. Starter Car, whose sound is described as “guitar music for race-car drivers,” set about refining their live set and have performed countless shows at well-known London venues, such as Windmill Brixton, The Ivy House, Shacklewell Arms, and The George Tavern. Last summer, the band focused on recording in the studio, putting together new material. Throwing Down is the band’s fifth single and the perfect introduction to Starter Car for new listeners.
