Video: The Wandering Hearts “Gold”

With a typically excellent vocal performance and soaring chorus, The Wandering Hearts bring you their latest single, ‘Gold’.  The song explores the idea that when you’re wounded and broken after challenging times, the scars will fade and you may come back stronger for the experiences.  The band explain: “‘Gold’ stemmed from the idea of something becoming more beautiful after being broken. We had chatted about the Japanese art form kintsugi, which repairs pottery with lacquer mixed with gold. This was the perfect imagery for what we were writing about. Our scars are a visual representation of our struggles and our stories of loss are stories of survival. ‘Gold’ feels even more connected and poignant now, after a year of so much loss and everyone just trying to survive.”  Ultimately, the song is full of hope and, when they sing: “…all the broken pieces // Of your heart are made to be filled with gold,” with their trademark harmonies, there is the promise of a better future ahead.  The Jackson Ducasse-directed video shows the trio surrounded by the beauty of the countryside and walking along an abandoned railway track, a scar on the landscape slowly being reclaimed by nature.  It’s a fitting image for a song about moving on.

After the great success of the debut album ‘Wild Silence’, The Wandering Hearts became the first British band to make their US debut at the Ryman Auditorium and then perform at the Grand Ole Opry in the same week.  The band won the Bob Harris Emerging Artist Award and, as well as headline tours, supported such Americana stars as Tom Petty, Lukas Nelson and Justin Townes Earle.  Now, we can look forward to a second self-titled album, recorded with Simone Felice and David Baron in a studio deep in the Catskills.  Expect more harmonies, more sumptuous melodies and more hopeful, positive songs to help us emerge from difficult times.  In the meantime, check this out.
