Video: Wilswood Buoys “A Place to Call My Own” Feat. Frank Turner

Here’s a great introduction to the distinctive sound of Mersea Island’s Wilswood Buoys.  ‘A Place to Call My Home’ is a fresh take on traditional folk, featuring a catchy tune, fabulously fast fingers on the fretboard and a touch of harmonica.  It’s upbeat, energetic and makes you want to get moving, perfect for a live show.  This performance was in support of Frank Turner and the man himself makes an appearance towards the end of the song, lending his voice just as he does on the studio version.

‘A Place to Call My Home’ appears on the duo’s recent album, ‘A New Beginning’, which was released in January 2023.  The Turner-produced record is an absorbing listen that blends folk with alternative acoustic pop.  Wilswood Buoys have toured the album in support of both The Levellers and Frank Turner in recent months as well as playing Lost Evenings IV at The Roundhouse in London and Beautiful Days Festival.  Starting out as a couple of mates jamming and playing together just for the joy of it, the pair have retained that sense of collaborative fun.  Check out the new album but start here with this melodic, foot-stamping folk anthem.
