Video: The Avett Brothers “Country Kid”

The latest single from The Avett Brothers is an absolute delight, both musically and visually.  ‘Country Kid’ is an exuberant and affectionate song for childhood and growing up: “I was a country kid…Then I grew up and hit the city // But the skyscrapers never get me // I fly above it all the time // Straight through cloud nine // Flowing fast like the Mississippi.”  The upbeat song features a catchy melody and excellent instrumentation, particularly the fluent fiddle.

Directed by Adam Rothlein, the playful video finds the band at a roller-skating rink, dressed up as a variety of characters, including a superhero, a bear, a priest and a rock star.  Like the song itself, the visual is light, bright and energetic.

The single is the second taken from the band’s first new album in five years, which will be released on 17th May 2024.  Produced by Rick Rubin, the self-titled album seeks the divine in the everyday, the sacred in commonplace things and the magic in the ordinary and mundane.  It works beautifully – dynamic music, full of energy and joy.  The new album from The Avett Brothers is definitely one to watch out for.
