Erin Rae heads to the UK for 8 dates in 8 days, beginning in London on the 4th of November. Rae has a deserved reputation as a compelling live performer, which has earned her the respect of her Nashville peers and contemporaries, including Grammy Award winner John Paul White, who was impressed enough to sign her to his Single Lock Records label.
With her last album, ‘Putting On Airs’, Erin Rae showed herself adept at writing songs which struck a fiercely independent chord, reflecting her own upbringing in Tennessee, including the prejudices and injustices that she witnessed as a child that continue to impact her life to this day. According to Rae herself, “this album was born out of a need to do some healing work in my personal life, in order to address some fears and patterns of mine to allow my true feelings to come to the surface.”
Rating the album worthy of 8/10, Americana UK said on its release: “Although this is only a sophomore effort, it’s close to being fully realised: romantic addiction, the tension at the heart of relationships, the desire we all seek at times for approval and validation – this is an album rich in songwriting and quality lyric writing, all the while accompanied by Rae’s angelic vocals.”
Rae featured at AmericanaFest in Nashville last month where she curated a night dedicated to the Carpenters, titled “We’ve Only Just Begun”. She also participated in JP Harris’s event, Sunday Morning Coming Down, where she performed a rendition with him of Gordon Lightfoot’s ‘Early Morning Rain’. The song features on the second volume of Harris’s ongoing duet project with female artists, entitled ‘Why Don’t We Duet In The Road (Again),” an EP which also includes collaborations with Elizabeth Cook, Miss Tess, and Malin Pettersen. Speaking of his duet with Erin Rae, JP Harris said:
“Erin has this ethereal, soft-yet-commanding air about her singing, and is a generally calming person to be around, so it was really just playing ‘follow the leader’ to sing alongside her. She’s definitely going to be known as one of the greatest folk singers of our generation one day and it’s a huge honour to release a song with her.”
