Whose fault is it?.. oh yes …must be the teachers.
There is a growing trend in education that is only increasing and that is the blame game. Parents are right to expect a solid education with care and thought being applied to their loved ones as well as oversight of their personal happiness and development being both pro-active and pupil-focused. Absolutely.
But… there are two sides to every coin and teachers should also be able to rely on the support of parents when in their professional opinion pupils are not delivering on their potential both socially and academically and this is where things are going badly wrong. For sure there are sometimes personal issues between pupils and their teachers but 99.9% of the time the professionalism of teachers cannot be called into question. There are far too many checks and balances in place these days. And yet more and more often teachers are blamed by parents as they become defensive and aggressive believing their children to be victims rather than just lazy or naughty.
In extreme cases (and this is happening more often) parents are moving their children to other schools – often every couple of years as the same concerns rear their heads! This is the ultimate failure of parenting, that can potentially destroy their child’s chances of working things through to an outcome wherein they address the issues that they are dealing with. For sure we all will fight for our childrens’ happiness but the professionalism of the teaching profession must be supported rather than fought in order to achieve the best outcomes.
Rant over.
This week I have been listening to other Mixclouds following my foray into the form with mine for Rotten Records – see the link below if you wish spend an hour with my choices. It’s a blast I promise and some snappy between-tracks announcements too.
There is some brilliant stuff out there in Mixcloud world. I ended up listening to a guy called Gil Matus where I heard the wonderful Ryan Baine for the first time, he also played some Gordon Lightfoot which sent me to Mr Weller, who absolutely nails this song and finally in anticipation of the Fillmore set some Tom Petty.
As ever take what you want or need.
