Video Premiere: Francesca Brown “Where You Begin”

Francesca Brown’s latest single is a dark western song with a cinematic feel.  The uptempo beat and pulsing bass are the foundation for fine guitar-work and gorgeously sweeping, bending, sliding pedal steel.  Over these atmospheric layers, Brown’s haunting vocal performance is outstanding.  Displaying great range and engaging melody, her voice is like an ethereal dream, especially when lifted by the lilting backing vocals.

Brown says of the song: “I wrote this song during my early pregnancy with my daughter.  Part of me felt as if I was disappearing into my surroundings.  I had been working job after job, chasing dream after dream for so many years, and watching time slip away.  Around me greed, land disappearing, dreams disappearing, I was too. I was a missing woman and the only one looking out was myself.  When I made this video I thought of all the women that go missing every day for real, women who are trying to find a better life and only have themselves watching out.  Of course, I also wanted to include my home state California, the love, the hate, the struggle, but in the end she holds me.”  Brown created the video with the help of Portugal’s Studio Sparks.

‘Where You Begin’ is the fourth and final single taken from Brown’s forthcoming album, ‘Stolen Land And Broken Dreams’, which is due out in the autumn of 2024.  The Californian singer-songwriter is inspired by traditional country and folk and this beautifully-crafted song is timeless.  Enjoy.

Lovely song. A new name to me and on the strength of this track I’m eagerly awaiting the release of the album.
