What is the meaning of freedom, and what values does the ability to make choices have when constraints mean that freewill can look like picking to have your limitations defined for you. These are some of the questions raised by the latest single from VanWyck, which draws in part on a desert trip that she made some years ago. The ‘Desert Bride‘ of the song’s title happily chooses marriage: “she don’t say no – he’s got a factory” and yet there’s a hint that a different life might be more attractive: “On the ridge she took my hand / Tracing the lines in my palm / You will travel over many lands / I will stay here and raise his sons / But tonight we are alike.”
‘Desert bride‘ is taken from the album ‘Dust Chaser‘ which will be released in September and promises a rockier – hypnotically desert rockier perhaps – vibe as VanWyck continues pushing her musical boundaries.
