Video: Niall McNamee “Moon Belongs To You”

‘Moon Belongs To You’ is the latest single from Irish singer-songwriter Niall McNamee. This emotive song conveys the pain felt at the end of a relationship, tormented by memories and associations. McNamee’s vocal is suitably impassioned, his timeless tone and delivery rising above the full sound of his band’s rich and varied instrumentation. Sonic textures are provided by Ronan Stewart on bagpipes, Luke Maher on trumpet and Fabrizio Tocacelli on guitar. Additional lushness is delivered by David Schrello’s cello and Oliver Jones’ fiddle, the sweeping strings adding to the song’s epic, growing feel.

McNamee explains the song’s theme: “Places remind you of people in your life. A restaurant, a street, a building. They feel like they belong to old flames from your life. But what if you’re reminded of someone when you see the moon? As soon as night arrives, you’re completely lost.”

The single is taken from McNamee’s debut album “Glass and Mirrors”, which is due to drop on 10th October 2025. The collection of songs is like a remembered journey. McNamee says, “I can almost trace my entire adult life through these songs. It’s been a long journey. The scrapes and scratches, the ups and downs of being young and living in London. I sometimes wonder how many of my memories are so clear because I have songs about them. Would certain people and events be lost if I hadn’t written a song about it.” Thoughtful, sensitive songwriting that represents traditional Irish music but with a contemporary feel – check it out.
