Kirby Lyle’s new song ‘The Thinking Man‘ compares and contrasts different approaches to life and relationships, adding in a reflection of the strands of leadership that each might offer. The titular thoughtful person, for example, “broods over his creation – he worries for us all” whilst the Brave Man “loves – he shows grace, he’s healing the traumas that we face.” Which is fine – but there’s always a chance that one will encounter The Evil Man, The Wicked Man who “pushes fear to force compliance, how he gaslights us with his lies.” It’s a stark choice – given at a musically frantic pace, ‘The Thinking Man‘ is not a song in a style you’ve heard a lot of recently, which, considering that Lyle is joined by Kyle Tuttle (banjo), John Mailander (fiddle), and Erica Nalow (sax), might be a surprise. However, what these Nashville musicians do is something gloriously different to hear.
Speaking about the song, which is taken from the upcoming EP “Change Is Hard“, Kirby Lyle has said: “My role in the revolution is to create and share humanity in the most hopeful ways and to congregate with like-minded souls and invite disagreement, to receive it with logic and love, to preach compassion, and to inspire our best selves and communities. I am not a politician, policy maker, a proprietor, or a governor, I am an artist and ambassador for positive change.”
