Disappear down the rabbit hole with the latest single from The Sensational Country Blues Wonders!, the musical project of New Jersey-based musician and performer Gary Van Miert. The video for The Mad Tea Party is a vibrant, psychedelic spectacle that reflects the mind-bending chaos of the Mad Hatter and his friends. Delightfully, an animated representation of Gary Van Miert makes an introduction on his guitar halfway through, with another fleeting appearance towards the end of the video. As well as mirroring the lyrical madness, it’s a fitting video for the energetic, upbeat nature of the song and its exuberant melody, with musical inspiration found somewhere up in the cosmos.
Gary told AUK about the video: “The video for ‘A Mad Tea Party’ by The Sensational Country Blues Wonders! brings the ‘Mad Tea Party’ chapter from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland to life in a whimsical, surreal, and swirling psychedelic reinterpretation. Alice, the Mad Hatter, the Dormouse, and the March Hare gather in a playful yet chaotic tea party scene that blends classic storytelling with dreamlike visuals. Watch closely for a surprise cameo by yours truly, adding a unique and unexpected twist to this familiar tale.”
This is the second single from The Sensational Country Blues Wonders! forthcoming drug-induced opus, Music Sounds Better When You’re Stoned. Gary explained to AUK the inspiration behind the song: “This song is based on the Mad Tea Party chapter of Alice in Wonderland, inspired by the famous quote – ‘You’re mad, bonkers, completely off your head. But I’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are.'” Look out for the new album on 19th June 2026. This is a project that blends genres: country, gospel, and blues, with a huge dose of theatre and retro-cowboy flair. Also known as The Psychedelic Cowboy, Gary Van Miert reimagines roots music with humour, storytelling and a cosmic spirit. Enjoy.
