Grammy award-winning icon Janis Ian will release “The Light at the End of the Line” on her label Rude Girl records. Having started in 1967 with a self-titled album, her first studio recording in 15 years is also her last and bookends a 55-year career in music. The release includes the two new singles, “I’m Still Standing” and “Resist“.
Janis Ian began releasing music at age 14 with her socially and politically impactful song “Society’s Child“, about an interracial romance between teenagers. Her honest songwriting has translated into culturally significant tracks, including “At Seventeen“, “Jesse“, and “Stars“, the latter of which was covered by Nina Simone, Cher, Mel Tormé. She has been nominated for nine Grammy awards and won two: one in 1976 for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female (“At Seventeen“) and one in 2013 for Best Spoken Word Recording (“Society’s Child: An Autobiography“).
“I love this album“, Ian says. “There is an element of, ‘This is the absolute best I can do over the span of 58 years as a writer. This is what I’ve learned’. And I realised that this album has an arc, and I’ve never really done anything like that before.“

“The Light at the End of the Line” will be available on cd only. Some bundles include posters, signed material, and acoustic web-only material “Strictly Solo” bonus disc. It can be ordered on her website or at your favourite local music shop.
Resist is the the best social comment song I have ever heard. Lyrics that you HAVE TO LISTEN TO. A well constructed backing that supports tha vocal perfectly and a delivery so powerful that it could only be presented by an artist of Janis Ian,s stature. The video is constructed in such a way that it acts as series of bullet points. Thank you, its nice to know I,m not the only one still willing to write and perform such songs. I may never write anything as strong as Resist but I wont stop trying.
