Interested to hear from AUK readers if your area is covered in British/English flags at the moment, we have managed to mainly avoid them in Liverpool but they have that "Scouse not English" thing here which protects us from a lot of it (mainly). What a time to be alive!

No, nothing around here... (on the Isle of Wight) There are a few folks I see on my usual routes with flag poles in their gardens that will fly a variety of flags and have done for many years, but the intention I'm sure, is not to make any kind of political or other point in doing so.

What I’ve noticed is that the further south you get down the m6, the more prevalent the flags become, they're almost on every bridge the closer you get to the south west (no shade to southerners, I am one!). Where my parents live they’re everywhere, sprayed on roundabouts and zebra crossings etc

Yeah, driving back from the Lakes at the end of this Summer they were everywhere on the motorway bridges, more and more so as we got further South.

Just waiting to hear about someone crashing when one of the now tatty rags blows free and obscures their windscreen...

That's interesting (and a bit depressing). I drove into Warrington last week and they were everywhere there.

Driving from our place to Birmingham airport last week they were on every lamp post (a journey of perhaps fifteen miles). The flags aren't, of course, the issue. The issue is who is putting them up and why. Given our propensity in this country to celebrate the defeat of fascism last century its ironic (and blood chilling) that people seem to be using our flag to promote its resurgence

I couldn't agree more obviously. We have not been immune to it here either - with apologies that this is a Reach website link so good luck in finding the article:  https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/flag-row-erupts-police-called-32713111

There seems to be pockets of flags around the country. Around Birmingham,  thousands but in other areas so few it's hard to tell if they're England sports supporters or something more sinister.

@markamericana there is actually one on my street which is a bit depressing to drive past everyday. Not the flag itself that’s the problem, more the ulterior motive

There are areas of Glasgow festooned with the Scottish Saltire, put up by a bunch who purported to be concerned by issues such as the cost of living and such but one of them was soon outed as a tight wing bigot. Some more "enlightened" areas have put up flags combining the Saltire with the Palestinian flag and of course GB News weighed in on that. I enjoyed this read... https://www.glasgowbell.co.uk/raise-the-colours-union-jack-saltire/

On HIGNFY - people flying flags have been pranked with letters purporting to be from the council saying they have been selected to house immigrants. 😀
