‘TexiCali’ is the a brand new studio album from Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and it is out June 21st via Yep Roc Records. In advance we can point you towards the aptly-titled first single “We’re Still Here.” It’s got some great lines, put perhaps the best series is: “The music business man with the music business smile / said the songs I write were old and out of style / But I’ve been bopping these blues for over forty years / Hell, I don’t know where he is now but we’re still here.” Here at the home of the uncool and permanently out of style we can surely relate to that.
Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore have announced a new album ‘TexiCali’ which will be released on YepRoc on 21st June. Both Alvin and Gilmore are well known to AUK readers, the former for his output with the trail-blazing Blasters, his solo work including lately with the Guilty Ones and,…
Solid collaboration from two of Americana's finest. Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Dave Alvin must have two of the most distinctive voices in Americana. Of course they also both have long and distinguished careers including many solo albums as well as work with the Flatlanders and the Blasters, and in Alvin’s…
This we like, the song of course, but also this part of the story behind the release of this new single by Dave Alvin & Jimmie Dale Gilmore - 'Borderland' was recorded on the duo’s day off during a Texas tour run in January of this year at The Zone…
Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
Another spectacular offering from Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Dave Alvin! I’ve followed Jimmie Dale and the Flatlanders since the late 1990’s. I got introduced to Dave later, as he and Jimmie Dale began to create together. What amazing music and men! I love lots on this album, yet my fav is Josh White’s ‘Down the 285’. It’s such a ‘here and now’ song – easy to imagine being behind the wheel on that drive. True or not, I heard when Jimmie introduced that song to Dave he said “nobody but you could get away with singing about ‘bunnies’! haha
