Always a sign that the nights are drawing in, Glasgow’s own Americana Festival returns for its 18th year next week. Helmed by promoter Kevin Morris of The Fallen Angels Club, Glasgow Americana takes place in several of the city’s venues over a five day period from 2nd-6th October, and this year features 17 acts from home and abroad.

From the U.S. there’s Annie Keating, playing with her regular UK lineup of top-notch UK musicians (Joe Coombs on electric/slide guitars, Scott Warman on bass and Jamie Dawson on drums), Karen Jonas, riding high on the reviews of her latest album The Rise And Fall Of American Kitsch” (and playing her first Scottish show) and Rachel Baiman who will be sharing a stage with US musician Cahalen Morrison who now resides in Scotland. Flying in from Canada, Norma MacDonald, returns to a festival she has graced before.

Heading up the highway from down south, Peter Bruntnell will be showcasing songs from his latest album, “Houdini And The Sucker Punch” while there will be a warm welcome for AMAUK award winner Hannah White.  Joining them will be a homegrown contingent of Scots acts including Sulidae’s album launch (for their latest release “…an invincible summer”), Malcolm McWatt and the energetic Countess Of Fife (featuring ex-Rezillo legend Faye Fife).  In collaboration with local record label Holy Smokes and Glasgow’s The Seven Song Club there’s a special night featuring Adam Thom, Les Johnson & Me and Niamh Corkey.

Venues include The Glad Café, The Rum Shack, Stereo and The CCA and the festival opens with a performance from Good Guy Hank, an intriguing cross-continental collaboration between Scottish singer/songwriter Donny McElligot (The New Madrids) and the Australian/Scottish bluegrass duo, Rain Of Animals.

Tickets are available here and the line-up is so strong that we highly recommend you get along.
