Sounds from beyond the Shed 232 “Suprising”

Last week’s heatwave was the setting for an adventure. Regular readers will know that Mrs H and I venture out in a van every now and then, but the Bank Holiday was the first time that we had taken small people with us. Our two youngest grandchildren (we have six, so far, fact fiends) were assigned to us for 4 days, and we decided to take them to a small campsite in Suffolk. No seaside or swimming pool, just woods and other children, and 35-degree heat!

To coincide with this madness, my doctor had decided that I needed my blood pressure taken for a week, morning and afternoon, all whilst suffering from a streaming cold. You can see where this is going. The excitement was extraordinary as we motored east, singing along to Josh Rouse. And after a couple of hours, we arrived. There then followed an hour of manic setting whilst the two unfettered kids went beserk. So surprised they were by the permission to go where they wanted and talk to whoever they liked as long as they remained within vague sight, they somehow lost their minds for a while. It was brilliant to see.

And so the scene was set for the next 48 hours, a series of vignettes. Madness followed by reining in, to feed them and slap more suncream on. However, the nights were essentially cooking ourselves in a tin can for 8 hours. And my blood pressure readings…

Lower than ever.

There must be something I can learn from this.

Music this week has been the sunny sounds of Josh Rouse and Paul McClure, who appears on the podcast this week. The radio show, also broadcast from an oven, features Elaine Palmer, Kevin Morby, Dead Goat, Alela Diane, Laura Veirs, and more. As ever…
