The Top 10 Greatest Ever Americana Artists: Readers’ Picks 21-30

Credit: Kim Erlandsen

We invited readers to have their say and you responded in your droves, voting for a total of 131 different artists although we are still to decide whether votes for Jimi Hendrix and the Rolling Stones were serious, a misunderstanding or just plain mischievous. The vast majority of the votes were however on the mark covering a whole range of fantastic americana artists.

We’ve narrowed the field down to a Top 30 and today we bring you numbers 21-30. The numbers in brackets are the position that the AUK writers voted the same artist into.

21 (–) Neil Young
22 (38) Mary Gauthier
23 (18) Felice Brothers
24 (–) Son Volt
25 (16) Chris Hillman
26 (–) Gene Clark
27 (–) Creedence Clearwater Revival
28 (–) John Hiatt
29 (–) Cowboy Junkies
30 (21) Uncle Tupelo

Numbers 11 – 20 will be revealed tomorrow.
