The Waeve supergroup releases debut album today

The Waeve (pronounced “wave”), a new project featuring the duo of Graham Coxon and Rose Elinor Dougall, have released their self-titled debut album today. Graham Coxon is, of course, known as the lead guitarist with Blur, as well as his nine solo albums since 1998 and soundtrack work. His autobiography, ‘Verse, Chorus, Monster!‘ is out later this year on Faber and Faber. Rose Elinor Dougall is a singer-songwriter, formerly of The Pipettes, who has released three solo albums, the latest being ‘A New Illusion‘. She has also worked with Mark Ronson and Baxter Dury, among others.
It is an eclectic and surprising album. Many tracks feature Coxon on saxophone, one of the first instruments he played as a young musician back in the 80s. On ‘All Along’, Coxon plays cittern, a medieval folk lute, while Dougall plays the piano. The Waeve has been compared to the folk-rock of Sandy Denny or John & Beverly Martyn, while some tracks have been likened to the 70s rock of Kevin Ayers or Van der Graaf Generator.

This debut album was produced by The Waeve and James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Florence & The Machine, Foals, HAIM) and recorded in London earlier this year. ‘The Waeve‘ includes singles ‘Kill Me Again‘, ‘Can I Call You’ and ‘Drowning‘. It is available on coloured and standard vinyl, cd, tape, and your favourite streaming platform via the artist’s website.
