The new video from Mikhail Laxton is a powerful visual spectacle, depicting the end of a relationship leading to despair, anger and violence. Shot and directed by Robert Mentov, it was inspired by a real-life drama involving the break up of a happy relationship caused by unfaithfulness and the betrayal of a best friend. The resulting video is more of a short film, a tense and cinematic narrative that makes for compelling viewing. With a driving rhythm and thumping drums, ‘Leaving You With Less’ surges forward. Laxton’s dynamic, tuneful vocal and his energetic electric guitar fill out the sound.
Now based in Ottawa, the Australian-born singer-songwriter became known in his homeland thanks to appearing on Australia’s version of The Voice. ‘Leaving You With Less’ is the third single from Laxton’s upcoming self-titled album, the follow-up, and quite a departure from, his debut EP ‘Real’. Seven years in the making, a period in which Laxton has rebuilt his life, it’s a collection that covers life and loss, love and longing. Along with previous singles ‘Mossman’, a homage to his hometown, and ‘Dying To Let You Go’, a compassionate song about his father’s addictions, the new single offers further insight into what promises to be a very personal album, due out on 18th August 2023. Check it out later in the summer.
