Video Premiere: Will Rainier “Spinning” (feat. Jen Garrett)

Here is the video premiere of ‘Spinning’ from Will Rainier’s forthcoming solo album ‘Enough Blue to Go Around’.  Featuring the pure, soaring voice of Jen Garrett alongside Rainier’s dreamy vocal, this song aims for the cosmos.  Rainier begins: “Spinning out of of control // I keep stumbling where I want to go // I can’t pick the truth out of all the noise,”  and Garrett answers: “Spinning all around my head // So many ideas sink like lead.” There’s an otherworldly feel as they sing back and forth, but the song is truly elevated when they come together for the chorus: “I feel crazy all the time…push myself out into space,” the melody slipping and sliding over atmospheric sonic layers.  The guitars echo and weep gently while Rainier and Garrett manage to be both weary and uplifting at the same time.  The accompanying video is delightfully playful with the duo dancing, singing, performing as the sun bursts through the trees.  As they smile and laugh with one another, enjoying one another’s company and getting lost in the music, it’s hard not to be carried along by their mood.  Rainier says the song is, “…less doom spiral, more dancing with goofballs.”

While this will be his debut solo album, the Seattle songwriter has been making music in a series of bands for the last thirty years, most recently Will Rainier & The Pines, with whom he released an outstanding upbeat, varied album, ‘Tethered to the World’, in 2020.  On the new album, due out on 1st October 2021, the supremely talented multi-instrumentalist takes on drums, bass, guitars, piano, organ, trumpet and lap steel but he’s not entirely alone.  As well as collaborating, once again, with Jen Garrett on the new material, Rainier is also joined by a list of gifted friends on ‘Enough Blue to Go Around’: Christine Hager supplies piano, Kevin Suggs (The Shins) adds ethereal pedal steel, Raymond Richards is on bass and Chad Yenney is on bass and guitar.  Finally, Grammy-winning T.J. Troy provides the beautifully swirling, sustained tones of the vibraphone, the warm sound of your dreams.

‘Spinning’ is the second single from the upcoming record.  Check it out for beautiful musicianship, fine songcraft and Will Rainier’s richly textured sound.  Enjoy.
