Cambridge Folk Festival announce first artists

With the tickets for this year’s Cambridge Folk Festival having gone on sale on the 10th of December last year it’s too late to say “this seems to come around earlier every year”.  And anyway, who wouldn’t want to know who the first major artists confirmed for this prestigious and long-running festival are?

Amazingly Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Yusuf / Cat Stevens has never appeared at the Festival before, and this is the year where that anomaly will be resolved.  Passenger is a returning artist having debuted in 2011 on The Den stage and going on to headline Stage 1 in 2015.  Seasick Steve is another returnee, having last appeared in 2010.

The wonderful Suzanne Vega has a new live album out ‘An Evening of New York Songs and Stories’ – which will doubtless be something of a template for her appearance.  Also on the list are the ever-popular British folk band Show of Hands, and from Ireland there’ll be Lankum.  Martha Wainwright and Malian singer-songwriter, actor and multiple Grammy Award nominee Fatoumata Diawara complete this initial announcement.  Lots more to come in the weeks ahead!

The festival runs 30th July to 2nd August and tickets are available as Full festival ticket: £182, Thursday: £30, Friday: £75, Saturday: £75, Sunday: £75.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
