I can't wait to watch Small Prophets, I think Mackenzie Crook's stuff is so much better than Ricky Gervais' these days. (Found Afterlife really overrated but loved the Detectorists and his take on Worzel Gummidge)

I came to the Detectorists a bit late, but have watched all of Small Prophets, perfect. Roll on season two.

Binge-watched Small Prophets and loved it. I'm generally not a fan of fantasy or science fiction, but this gently draws you in and, along with the blend of characters, is wonderful. Such is the genius of Mackenzie Crook. Fingers crossed for seasons 2 and 3!

Not right now - but last night - "Wuthering Heights".

If you've heard that Martin Clunes steals the film - he does.

Wuthering Heights (the house) itself seems to have been transported to the edges of Mordor.

Heathcliffe comes out of it quite well, but Cathy cements her position as a really awful person.  I'm not quite sure what her Steampunk wardrobe was meant to symbolise.

Nellie's motivations have been upended - although it's a reasonable reinterpretation since her role in the book is somewhat unfathomable.

It's probably 10-15 minutes too long - but overall worth seeing.  The music?  Well, Olivia Channey is perfect.

Realise it's been around for a while but has anyone watched the Northern Ireland police drama Blue Lights? Some of the gore is a bit much for my delicate sensibilities but it's very good indeed.

@markamericana Yes, very good. Not black and white in its characterisations. Also gives a glimpse of the scars the Troubles have left on local society.

Glad I'm not alone even if I'm late to the party as ever!

Currently watching ‘How to Get to Heaven from Belfast’ on Netflix, it’s written by the woman who wrote Derry Girls and it’s excellent (so far)

I've just recently discovered 'Love, Death & Robots' on Netflix and I'm completely hooked. It's a series of short (circa 20 minutes) films, mostly animation, broadly in the Sci-Fi genre, and it's brilliant. Some of the content is better than others but the films are, invariably, wonderfully quirky and very clever. Quite a bit of social commentary as well. If you haven't come across it, and like video content that's a bit different, I thoroughly recommend it.

"Man on the Run" the documentary on Amazon. A hagiography of Paul McCartney. Those who know me will understand my adulation for the virtuoso bass player, singer and songwriter. This deals with his Wings years which is interesting. My overwhelming feeling is that if the others (Lennon and Harrison in particular) had just managed to stop being miserable twats for a bit and get over themselves things in musical history could have been even better. Linda comes out of the thing particularly well.

I saw a Tik Tok where Sharon Van Etten recommended some movies. I took her up on Sorry, Baby (2025). The subject matter is serious so my commentary is not a reflection of that. I often found the acting, especially from the lead actress (Eva Victor) to be cringey if not outright bad. Sometimes but not always typical of indie movies. It had its moments but there was more than once where I couldn’t wait for it to be over. It was a rental so I was left no other option than to ride it out.

Bedroom rising from an old growth tree
Bringing out the sawmill, cutting the 12 inch beams
Building a pattern, the reservoir to fill with dreams
Rings like Saturn telling their old story…
