Mike Stinson & Johnny Irion “Ponderosa Pine” –

Mike Stinson and Johnny Irion started writing songs together in the 1990s in the San Fernando Valley.  There musical collaborations came together in an old farmhouse behind a rehearsal studio called The Alley and the sounds were of a countryfied rock that the pair found pleasing.  They filled out their sound with the help of Mike’s friend Andy Jones.  They played some gigs, they recorded some song to analog tape in n Jackson Browne’s studio.

And then time passed, as it does.  Andy Jones died suddenly.  There was a marriage.  There was a lot of travel with different bands: Johnny is the one-time frontman ’90s rockers, Queen Sarah Saturday, Mike has played with the likes of Lucinda Williams and Christina Aguilera and has penned songs for Dwight Yoakam, Willie Nelson among others.  But finally the music that had been recorded some 25 years ago was revisited and, hey, it still sounded pretty good.  The result is the eleven song album release ‘Working My Way Down‘ from which today’s song of appreciation of another is taken.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
