Songs Not Bombs Vol. 2 for Gaza is out today

We carried news last month of a new project in support of the children of Palestine who are going through unimaginable trauma at the moment, and the project has just released a second compilation featuring previously unreleased recordings of songs from Billy Bragg, John Calvin Abney, Austin Lucas and Jeffrey Martin among others.

The albums are described as a “grassroots initiative created in direct response to the recent violence and struggle in the Gaza Strip.” All proceeds will go to the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund providing essential support to children affected by the invasion which is widely being acknowledged now as a genocide driven by Israel’s neo-fascist government.

The compilation can be ordered via Bandcamp here and there is a limited edition version of 50 which includes a Tatreez-inspired block poster print by Nikki Siababa symbolising a mill wheel which pays homage to Palestinian women, who have played an integral role in resisting the Israeli occupation. Tatreez — a centuries-old artful embroidery technique with radical roots — is just one of the many tools they have utilized. Each piece is hand printed onto archival paper (Rives BFK 280g cream 100% cotton), and will be signed and numbered.

Please do support the project if you can, and in the meantime you can find details of local and national events in the UK in support of Palestine over here.

Wonderful project! I’ve been following the work of Adeem the Artist for a while now and am increasingly impressed – I love the sincerity and compassion in the song here, a sad reflection captured perfectly.

Then I admit I got a tear in my eye hearing Billy Bragg’s revision of Lonesome Death, superbly done and a fitting tribute to brave Rachel Corrie. Bravo to all involved ❤️🎶☮️
